Position Summary
The Laboratory Manager will oversee daily operations across multiple laboratories, including the biosensor development lab, ink formulation and screen-printing lab, and PCR validation lab. This role ensures that all laboratory activities are conducted efficiently, safely, and in compliance with applicable quality and regulatory standards. The Laboratory Manager will supervise technical staff, coordinate equipment maintenance, manage inventory, oversee safety programs, and support cross-functional R&D, manufacturing, and quality initiatives.
Core Job Responsibilities
Operational Oversight
- Manage day-to-day activities across the biosensor, ink-making/printing, and PCR labs.
- Schedule and coordinate use of shared resources, equipment, and workspace.
- Maintain laboratory readiness for internal audits, regulatory inspections, and client visits.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), biosafety protocols, and OSHA/EHS standards.
- Maintain and enforce laboratory safety procedures, training, and incident reporting.
- Coordinate chemical, biological, and waste management in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
Equipment & Inventory Management
- Oversee maintenance, calibration, and qualification of lab equipment (e.g., screen printers, biosafety cabinets, PCR machines, biosensors testing rigs).
- Track and maintain inventory of raw materials, reagents, consumables, and laboratory supplies.
- Establish reorder points and coordinate procurement to prevent workflow interruptions.
Personnel Supervision & Training
- Train and mentor laboratory technicians, interns, and junior scientists on proper use of equipment, SOP adherence, and safety practices.
- Assign and oversee daily tasks to ensure project timelines and quality standards are met.
- Support professional development of laboratory staff.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with R&D, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, and Regulatory Affairs teams to align lab operations with company goals.
- Facilitate technology transfer between research and production environments.
- Support experimental design, troubleshooting, and process optimization when needed.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Materials Science, Bioengineering, or a related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience / Skills:
- 5+ years of laboratory management or senior lab operations experience, preferably in biotechnology, diagnostics, or nanomaterials.
- Strong knowledge of laboratory safety standards, GLP, and quality systems (ISO 13485 a plus).
- Hands-on experience with molecular diagnostics, PCR workflows, or nanomaterial handling.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills for supervising cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in biosensor fabrication or screen-printing conductive inks.
- Knowledge of graphene-based materials or electrochemical sensing technologies.
- Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and quality documentation practices.
