The Research and Development Technician will report to the immediate supervisor and is responsible for conducting and completing the Research and Development (R&D) laboratory work. Research and Development role is critical to the success of our development by ensuring timely and accurate completion of all laboratory experiments.

Responsibilities:

  • Update the inventory of equipment and reagents weekly, and submit the inventory spreadsheet to BioFrontier’s accounting office by the 1st of each month. Ensure necessary lab supplies are available and communicate weekly needs.
  • Maintain and certify equipment per manufacturer guidelines, ensuring all are clean, validated, and calibrated.
  • Monitor expiration dates and inventory levels of reagents, ensuring no expired materials are in use.
  • Clean lab benches and equipment surfaces weekly with 10% bleach and 70% ethanol; record in the cleaning log. Replenish storage carts, bench tops, and 70% alcohol bottles as needed.
  • Prepare shipments to Brazil, including filling out an Excel spreadsheet with detailed information for each item, such as product name, reagent condition, manufacturer, catalog number, lot number, manufacture/expiration dates, storage and shipping temperatures, price, and price +10%. Include invoices and COAs, sending them to BioFrontier’s COMEX office. Finalize shipping documents and prepare boxes for pick up by the third-party carrier.
  • Order dry ice, CO2, and liquid nitrogen as required.
  • Under the supervision of the immediate supervisor and QA Consultant, take meeting notes to assist with BioFrontier QA documentation, document preparation and correction, and version control.
  • Order laboratory supplies and maintain a well-organized lab space in compliance with
  • industry standards. Record all invoices in QuickBooks and coordinate payments with IBMP’s accounting office.
  • Maintain supplier accounts and ensure timely contact with suppliers for updates.
  • Update the SDS binder for any new chemicals or reagents.
  • Organize and file all supplier documents, including invoices, packing lists, and COAs, in the designated file cabinet.
  • Train lab personnel on experimental procedures and documentation.
  • Autoclaves laboratory material
  • Support performing experiments in the laboratory

Requirements

  • Technician or BA/BS in Chemistry, Bio-chemical/Bio-medical Engineering, Biology, Microbiology or related sciences.
  • Experience with sterile cell culture technique in a BSL2 level environment.
  • Experience in basic molecular biology techniques (e.g. obtaining clones for a gene of interest, PCR, ell cultivation, cell transfection followed by selection and cryopreservation.).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must be fluent in English (speaking, reading and writing).
  • Ability to work in the U.S.

Desirable (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)

  • Experience in a pharmaceutical or bioanalytical laboratory developing or validating
    assays for protein characterization using UV-Vis spectroscopy or immunoassays (e.g. ELISA and Western blot).
  • Knowledge of Safety and hazardous waste requirements.
  • Industry experience within Biotech or Pharmaceutical Industries.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic and professional demeanor.
  • Outstanding planning, organization, multi-tasking and communication skills required. • Possess a strong attention to detail. Ability to organize work to provide productive workflow.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. • Fluency in portuguese or spanish
  • Requires availability to work in the early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed to meet required timelines.
    Work Hours: Daily, Monday through Friday, 9 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. Requires availability to work early in the morning, in the evenings, holidays, weekends and overtime when required to meet timelines. These hours would be mandatory.
